Bobby Deol

Bobby Deol carries the mantle of being the son of perhaps the handsomest leading man of Hindi movies Dharmendra and brother of an equally successful Sunny. The brat of the family, he has performed this daunting role with elan carving out a distinct place for himself.

Bobby Deol made his debut into films in a romantic lead in ’Barsaat’, a home production of Dharmendra’s Vijayta Films directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi and shot by none other than Santosh Sivan. Though ’’Barsaat’ was not a stupendous success Bobby was instantly hailed as the star of the next decade.

Since then Bobby has chartered a chequered course inspite of choosing the biggest banners in the film industry. His romantic image took a battering with ’Dillagi’, directed by and co-starring brother Sunny Deol doing dismal business. Earlier ’Aur Pyar Ho Gaya’ against the ravishing Aishwarya and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’Kareeb’ also flopped. But the typical Deol resilience and never say die attitude sails him through the rough times.

It is in the mould of an action hero coupled with emotional vulnerability that Bobby too has found success. Rajiv Rai’s thriller ’Gupt’ with its gripping suspense was a runaway success. Abbas-Mastan’s skillfully crafted role for Bobby in ’Soldier’ also pulled in crowds. The current release ’Badal’ has Bobby Deol in the role of a terrorist with a Director like Raj Kanwar who elicited a remarkable performance from Sunny Deol in ’Jeet’.

Bobby Deol’s films under production ’Hum to Mohabbat Karega’ with Karishma Kapoor directed by Kundan Shah and ’Bichoo’ with Rani Mukherjee directed by Guddu Dhanoa may add yet another dimension to his screen image.

Bobby Deol personal image continues to be that of a protected younger son. He attributes his strength to the support of his family and lovely wife Tanya.
