No other heroine can boast of getting a dream role in her very first film. What Nagma did in her first film, is a dream of many talented actresses who consider doing such roles in the twilight of their career. Playing the role of a prostitute is considered to be the ultimate dream of many heroines of our industry.
Nagma must have had something that made Nitin Manmohan offer her the role of a village simpleton who turns into a prostitute because of the circumstances after coming to Mumbai. The hero to rescue her from that situation was Salman Khan, still fresh from his 'Maine Pyar Kiya' success. 'Baaghi' happened and Nagma too catapulted to fame overnight. But the movies that followed afterwards were nothing compared to her first movie. Nagma had talent. No doubts about it, but it was not coming out in a proper way. Before she took the bold decision of going down south, Firoze Khan offered her a hot role in 'Yalgaar' opposite Sanjay Dutt. Then there came 'Suhaag' with Akshay Kumar. These too could not do anything for her. She finally took a flight in the southern direction and things changed drastically in her favour. She was somebody those people had been looking for a very long time and she got everything she had ever asked for. The films she did in south supplemented what Bollywood could not give her. Nagma was the most happening actress there.
As if she was not content there, Nagma tried a comeback here. What she got was only a song and dance number with Amitabh Bachchan in 'Lal Badshah' and 'Papa The Great'. Things are not gelling well for her. Her day of reckoning is yet to come.
